Jazz drummer, world-renowned performer and Origin Records artist Kobie Watkins released his sophomore album, Movement, with the Kobie Watkins Grouptet on June 15, 2018. Recorded at Brigham Young University, Movement features Kobie Watkins (Leader, Composer, Percussion, Drums), Justin Nielsen (Piano), Aaron Miller (Bass), Ryan Nielsen (Trumpet) and Jonathan Armstrong (Saxophone). The album was recorded and mixed by Jason Richmond.
Watkins and the Grouptet formed organically over many years of friendship, performances and educational experiences around the world. Watkins and members of the band say they are on a quest to infect music lovers spiritually, creatively and emotionally. Movement represents a confident and compelling step forward for Watkins and his Grouptet that has been incredibly well-received by music fans and critics alike, with the jazz publication All About Jazz rating it 4.5 out of 5 stars and the record receiving 75 spins on National Broadcast Radio from May 31, 2018 to August 15, 2018.
